Dressin' Up The iPad!

A couple of months ago, we were given an iPad to use for work.

That was quite an exciting day in our office!  :)

 With iPads, they are fun little things....but seem a little fragile!

After seeing what happened with the Pioneer Woman's iPad, I wanted to be sure that didn't happen to mine!

For a little while, I carried it around in a small  pouch I had on hand.

Eventually, the boss lady purchased some iPad covers for us.  We had a few to choose from.  To me, they were all a little too 'professional' for my taste.  Yes, it is for work use, but I'm a fun gal!  :) 

Luckily, there was 1 iPad case that was asking to be jazzed up.

I loved the color of it....just not the LOVE on it.

Or the little writing inside.

 

So one weekend when I went to the farm {and remembered to take my material}, it was finally time to dress up my iPad!

I am loving her new look!  It brings a little fun to the professional world.

If I ever get tired of her current outfit, I can always change it again later.

Forget having a dress-up doll at my age.

Dressin' up the iPad will work out just fine.  :)

Pattern Fun

While at the farm last weekend, I had a fun time looking at old and a few newer patterns that Mom has.

Would you call these 'vintage'?  Quite a few of them are much older than I....so that puts them over 30!  {What age must something be to call it vintage?}

If you still use patterns this day and age, it is hard to find any that cost $1.00.  What ever happened to sewing being more affordable than buying clothes?

  

Sadly, that is not always the case anymore.  But with that, the quality of store bought clothing doesn't 'last a lifetime' like home sew clothes can.

Oh, and while I was taking pictures of what was inside the cupboards, mom said to be sure that I got a picture of the cupboards themselves....but don't include the mess!

What you just looked at is an original 1917 built-in.  I believe that is the age of the farmhouse.

Below the upper shelves, there are some drawers, a few more shelves, and my favorite....a tip out bin. 

But as much fun as it is, sometimes stuff gets 'lost' at the bottom of it. 

Anyway, lately, any of the sewing I have been doing (and making mom do) has been without an official pattern.  Sometimes I wish there was one!  Or atleast that I'd remember to make one.  It seems that no 2 items I have made are alike...even if they look alike.  I guess that is what you get for home sewn/hand crafted items.  I love it!

Strappy Business

This weekend, mom and I sewed up a couple more camera straps and another apron. 

One of the straps was for myself.

The other, for this farm living photographer...Traci.

So Traci, I hope you like this!  If not, I'll keep it for myself.  :)

Hopefully I can find the time to get it in the mail tomorrow.

Sew Much Fun!

This past Saturday, after working a short shift at the Center Grove Apple Orchard, I headed to the farm to get some sewing done.  I was 'hired' to make a camera strap and apron.  In addition, I (mom included) made a camera strap for Gina......well, technically Jay, since he's the photographer of the family.

While mom was finishing up on some of the crazy sewing on the apron, I started playing with scraps of material from the 'girly' camera strap.

Here's what I came up with.

I know those rosette things aren't that new or amazing, but I have never made them before.

And man, I struggled with them!  I wasn't sure what I was doing, but it was difficult holding it together while sewing it together.  Then trying to sew them to the strap was another task on its own!

But, here's the new final result.

If you notice on this one, the left side has a small patch of material that is different from the rest.  That is a lens cap pocket that is on the inside of the strap.  Because many of the DSLR camera's don't have anything to connect the lens cap to the camera when in use, this little pocket is a great help.  There is a little pocket on Jay's cover as well, but it just blends in with the material.

I hope to make some more of these sometime...but it might be a little while before I get a chance to get back to the farm.  So if you want one, let me know.  I'll put you on my wait list.  :)
