Cy-Hawk Series

If you live in the great state of Iowa, you know what tomorrow is. The big game of the year. The Iowa State Cyclones will be battling the University of Iowa Hawkeyes in football at Jack Trice Stadium, in Ames.

According to Wikipedia, 'The Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series is an annual athletic competition between Iowa State University and the University of Iowa. Sponsored by Hy-Vee, the competition includes all head-to-head regular season competitions between the two rival universities in all sports.'

The series officially begins tonight, with the women playing volleyball. But tomorrow, that is where the real fun begins. I read that they are expecting about 75,000 people to travel to Ames for this game. So for one day, the population in Ames will more than double.

I am not attending the game tomorrow. But I will be haning out with 3 kids while their parents are at the game. I have some activities lined up for us. But unfortunately, one of them will be taking us to Ames. I already have my alternate route planned out to get us to our destination. Otherwise, I don't know if we'd ever make it there. Kick-off is scheduled for 11am, with all the tailgating and parking lots opening up at 5am. Yup.....five in the morning! Crazy people. But there will be a good amount of people parking overnight with their RVs and buses tonight, to get their spot for tomorrow. Unfortunately, it isn't going to broadcast on regular tv, so I'm not sure if we'll get to watch it. We'll just have to listen to it on the radio.

So if you were planning a trip to Ames on Saturday for some reason, that doesn't include the football game, you might want to rethink your plans.

GO CYCLONES!!
